Not Just Football (2018) is a documentary directed by Paolo Casalis that chronicles the journey of Gabriel Stauring, a Californian activist who travels to Africa to assist refugees fleeing the Darfur conflict. In 2012, in an effort to regain global attention, he establishes Darfur United, a soccer team composed of Darfuri refugees living in camps in Chad. Using over 500 hours of footage filmed by Gabriel and others involved, the film tracks the team's evolution—from the dusty refugee camps to competing in a world football tournament—capturing their complex journey from refugees to citizens.
