Calderón was one of the pioneers among Spanish players in the NBA, establishing himself as one of the most reliable European point guards of his generation with teams such as the Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons, Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks. He was known for his court vision, passing accuracy and consistent leadership. With the Spanish national team, he played a key role in winning EuroBasket titles in 2009 and 2011, as well as earning the silver medal at the 2006 FIBA World Cup.
