Near the Peaks analyzes the development of paragliding in France from its origins in 1978 to its establishment as a regulated discipline under the French Free Flight Federation. Filmed alongside the French Championships, the production offers insight into both technical flight practices and the structure of national competition. Contributions from pioneers, instructors, and race officials provide historical context, training perspectives, and competitive frameworks. Tandem flight is presented as the most accessible entry point to free flight, and complementary outdoor activities in the Vosges are also introduced. The result is an integrated overview of contemporary paragliding and its role within France’s mountain culture.
