Stage 3 of the 2026 Vuelta a Burgos delivered the first major mountain battle between Merindad de Montija and Balneario de Corconte, covering 184 kilometres and featuring two decisive climbs: Puerto de Estacas de Trueba and Puerto del Escudo. The day began with a six-rider breakaway that built up a significant advantage. As the race progressed, Pavel Sivakov, Milan Vader and Timo Schoofs attacked from the peloton to bridge across, making the front group even stronger. Everything changed on the steep slopes of Puerto del Escudo. The peloton reeled in the breakaway and the attacks between the general classification favourites began. Felix Gall and Oscar Onley proved to be the strongest climbers, but the Austrian launched a devastating attack 4.6 kilometres from the summit, leaving the Brit with no answer. Gall reached the top of Puerto del Escudo alone and held his advantage on the fast descent to Balneario de Corconte, where he celebrated a brilliant stage victory. Behind him, Giulio Ciccone and Giulio Pellizzari caught Oscar Onley in the closing kilometres to complete the stage podium, while Gall pulled on the leader's jersey of the 2026 Vuelta a Burgos. #VueltaABurgos #FelixGall #Corconte #PuertoDelEscudo #EstacasDeTrueba #OscarOnley #GiulioCiccone #GiulioPellizzari #Cycling #Ciclismo #Highlights
