In the fourth episode of *The Silk Snow*, the journey reaches the Altay Mountains in northwest China, where the team explores the deep historical roots of skiing. Local hunters and shepherds still use traditional wooden skis wrapped in horsehide to move across deep snow, preserving ancient winter mobility practices. Fulvio Mariani and Mario Casella live alongside these communities, documenting their craft and use of traditional skis, revealing the cultural depth of this age‑old practice. The episode presents a thoughtful look at human history and ancestral techniques, complemented by striking visuals of the snowy Altay range and the daily lives of its inhabitants.
