Top 10 lightweight road bikes under €5000

After talking and dreaming about the lightest bikes you can find on the market, let’s see what we can get under €5000. There is a bit of everything within this price range: Bikes from popular brands and little-known manufacturers, bikes at really unbeatable prices and weights comparable to much more expensive models. All of them with disc brakes and electronic gear shifting. Let’s start the list in descending order, from the heaviest to the lightest.

Scott Addict RC 40

The climbing bike from the Swiss brand with HMX carbon frame, Shimano 105 Di2 12-speed groupset, internal cable routing and brand’s own Syncros components, weighs 7.9 kg and costs €4899. It is not specified but we’d assume that the weight is for size M and without pedals, which is how the manufacturers usually weigh the bikes.

Almost reaching our price limit, at €4999, and weighing 7.86 kg, the German brand offers a bike with carbon frame, internal cable routing, Shimano Ultegra Di2 12-speed groupset with power meter and larger rim depth Dt-Swiss wheels. With less rim depth, this model can easily get under 7.5 kg, which makes it really hard to compete with the German brand.

Van Rysel EDR CF Sram Force AXS

Decathlon’s top brand is not inferior to the biggest brands on the market. There are two Van Rysel models in this listing and, if you like either of them, you’d better keep an eye on the website because these bikes sell out really quickly.

The acronym EDR of this model stands for EnDuRance and it is a more comfortable choice than a standard road bike, with external cable routing, Sram Force AXS eTap groupset, Zipp 303 s wheels and Deda components. It weighs 7.8 kg in size M and without pedals. Price: €4100.

Orbea Orca M35i 2024

We have already talked about the Orca 2024 model in the post on lightweight bikes, but we only mentioned its top of the range model. This one costs less than a half (€4399) and weighs 1.5 kilos more: 7.8 kg. It has internal cable routing, Shimano 105 Di2 12-speed groupset and wheels and components from the Basque brand itself.

Van Rysel RCR Force AXS

This is probably the bike that, with a superior groupset and the RCR Pro frame, will be used by the riders of the French Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team. The difference between this frame and the RCR Pro is only 40g. So for less than €5000 (exactly €4799), you get a bike that weighs 7.7 kg in size M. Internal cable routing, Deda components, Sram Force AXS eTap groupset with power meter and Zipp 404 Firecrest wheels. Tough competition for the Canyon.

Origine Axxome III GTO LS68

Origine is a bike brand from Somain, a commune in northern France, not far from Roubaix. The brand is known for allowing you to choose the bike components to your liking down to the smallest detail. This road model with disc brakes, Sram Force AXS eTap groupset and the manufacturer’s own components goes a little over the budget (5066 €) but remains at only 7.69 kg in size S without pedals.

The cheapest bike on the list (€3024) also misleads us a little in terms of weight as they use the smallest size (XS) to measure the weight of the bike: 7.65 kg. In size M it will most likely be closer to 8 kg, if not more. Even so, for this price it would be hard to find a lighter and better equipped bike. Disc brakes, Sram Force AXS eTap groupset, Mavic Cosmic SL 45 wheels, Continental GP5000 tires and the rest of the components from the brand itself or from Fizik.

Vitus Vitesse Evo Ultegra Di2

A bike with many similarities to the aforementioned Van Rysel EDR, especially look-wise, but in terms of components, price and weight, it beats Decathlon’s bike. That’s why it’s likely to be out of stock when you look it up online. It has every reason to be a bestseller: carbon frame, Shimano Ultegra Di2 12-speed groupset, Reynolds AR46 wheels and brand’s own components. It all adds up to 7.5 kg in size M for a price of €4239.99.

Specialized Aethos Comp 105 Di2

The second lightest bike on our list. The Aethos model with Shimano 105 Di2 12-speed groupset, Dt-Swiss wheels and the manufacturer’s components, comes in at 7.4 kg in size 52, with a price of €4800.

Rose XLite 04 Ultegra Di2

Yet another German brand known for its competitive prices and using high-quality components. This model is a proof of both these things because its price on sale right now is €3999 and you get a 7.3 kg bike in size M with internal cable routing, Shimano Ultegra Di2 12-speed groupset, Fizik saddle, Continental GP5000 tires and other components from the manufacturer. If that’s not enough, you have three color options to choose from.

To sum up, we’ve got 10 bikes at very competitive prices and weights. If you look at the post on the most lightweight bikes, you will see that you can buy two or even three of these models for the price of what a top of the range bike costs. The weight difference is there, but it’s not that big. In some cases, it is not even 400 grams. Therefore, the models on this list, as well as some that are over the €5000 budget by only 400-500 euros, are without a doubt the best value for money.
